Each and every member of the food industry, from farm to fork, must create a culture where food safety and nutrition is paramount.

Food is an element of our environment, which is of utmost necessity for the survival of humans as well as for other creatures on this Earth. The food crops like wheat, rice, mustard, pulses, etc. which grow on the soil of our planet, are basic components of the food we regularly consume. Food that we eat, meets our requirements for nourishment and nutrition.

But a significant fact to be kept in mind here, is that we need to ensure the consumption of the right kind of food, that is healthy for all the creatures in our world. We need to ensure that the food consumed by the people is free from any harmful bacteria and micro- organisms, so as to prevent the spread of any food- borne diseases, that can consequently affect the health status of our population. We also need to ensure an equitable distribution of food components in our societies so as to create a state of food security in our country, which deals with not only the availability of food, but also the accessibility and affordability of food.

For the sections of our societies, living below the poverty line, it is necessary that we provide food at subsidized prices as is done in India through the fair price shops, under the Public Distribution System (PDS) . We need to prevent any wastage of food and save food today so that any problems of food scarcity in future, can be avoided. Food scarcity occurs when enough quantities of food is not available in the nation, to meet the consumption requirements of all sections of our society.

In order to avoid any such situation in future,

We need to save food today, conserve it and preserve it in a sustainable manner, so that we are able to fulfil our present needs and are not even compromising with the needs of our future.

Together we all need to work to achieve our global goal ‘Zero Hunger’ (SDG 2) !!
