It is the worst of times, but it is the best of times because we still have a chance.
We, humans, are responsible for making the sort of waste that nature can’t really digest. We still however possess a chance to bring a change, to change our mindsets, to change the way we look at the issue of environmental pollution.
I might not be exaggerating when I say that the plastic bottle you are going to purchase on your next trip, and throwing it away once used, can cost a life, the bottle you just threw away, has contributed to the pool of 60 million plastic bottles accumulated around the world each day. Albeit plastic has acquired a vital position in our lifestyle, its usage on an extreme basis can prove to be fatal for the ecosystem. Plastic is killing our oceans; it’s entering our bodies, causing the ecosystem to degrade and the creatures around us to suffer. And if all this continues and we keep on turning a blind eye to it, then as Anthony T. Hincks stated, ‘Plastic will be the main ingredient of all our grandchildren’s recipes.’
Plastic has acquired a significant place in every aspect of our lives, specifically talking about, single-use plastics, which are used only once before they are thrown away or recycled. Items such as plastic bags, straws, and coffee stirrers, all make use of single-use plastic, and thus, pose a grave threat to the environment around. People need to know that we are losing our resources, the atmosphere is deteriorating and nature is trying to express its fury through natural calamities, and all of this indicates towards the need for urgent action on our part.

We need to take up measures in order to ensure that we can provide our future generations with a safe and clean planet. Measures and means wouldn’t just involve discussing the issue and having debates, it calls for immediate action, pertaining to our individual contribution as well. For this, sustainability is the key and needs to be promoted.
We all need to join hands and raise our voices to work towards having a safe future on our Planet Earth.
